Tuesday, March 18 — Field Trip to Gibbs Gardens, Ball Ground, GA, plus an optional hike at Amicalola Falls.
Gibbs Gardens is one of the most impressive privately owned gardens in America, especially during the height of daffodil season — 20 million daffodils! Our drive is estimated to be about 90 minutes, but the reward is over 300 acres of garden rooms planted with hundreds of varieties of plants, many water features, and one of the best points in North Georgia to view surrounding mountains. You may bring water but not food inside the gardens, which includes a cafe. We will be strolling along the several beautiful miles of garden paths. After our visit, those interested in an optional trip to Amicalola State Park, less than half an hour away, can take a brisk climb to the top of the falls. Admission to Gibbs is $25 for those 18-64, $18 for 65+. Please buy tickets online at gibbsgardens.com so we can avoid the line for tickets at the gate. (If you purchase a ticket online, you may use it at any time the gardens are open in case you can’t make this trip.)
Check the weather forecast within a day of the hike, as earlier forecasts can change dramatically. For carpooling/caravanning, meet at 8:30 am ET at Wendy’s, 6727 Ringgold Rd., left (east) off I-75 Exit 1. Divide into two carpooling groups, those going on the optional trip to Amicalola Falls and those who are not. Register with hike leader Ginny Kidd (423) 304-3799.
