Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
This 5.2 mile roundtrip hike in the Smokies is one of the most scenic in the park. It is a moderate hike with 675 ft of elevation gain as it winds through the forest on the way to the 25 ft waterfall. Hiking to Abrams Falls in the winter gives us an almost constant view of Abrams Creek. We should keep a lookout for otters who were reintroduced to the park in 1988-90. The creek was named after a Cherokee Indian chief who adopted the name Abram. The trailhead is located approximately halfway around the Cades Cove Loop Road. A parking pass is required for drivers. A pit toilet is available at the trailhead. We will meet at Brown’s Shopping Center next to the Sonic in Maryville at 8:00 am and carpool from there. Bring money for carpool and lunch in Townsend.
