Mousetail State Park
April 10, 2021 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Mousetail State Park east of Parsons, TN and Lady’s Bluff Trail. After being closed for almost two years, Mousetail State Park re-opened in mid-February with some re-routing. The hike will begin at the park headquarters and meander thru the woods to the Shelter 1 area. The trail skirts the edge of the Tennessee River. Hiking thru the woods we will take a short excursion down to the river’s edge for lunch (if the water is not too high) and view the beach area and old homeplace site. We will then continue hiking to shelter 2 and by the old cemetery returning to the park head-quarters. This is a lollipop style trail totaling around 8 miles. Rated moderate due to length and terrain. We will meet at the park at 9:00 a.m. After this hike, the option will be available to drive to Lady’s Bluff Trail and hike. The 2.7 roundtrip hike follows along a gentle to moderately steep grade as it winds thru the forest to an overlook passing gnarled old cedars, limestone croppings and a stellar view of the Tennessee River. According to a TVA website: in the spring, the area transcends into a wildflower wonderland often seeing trout lily, spring beauty, jack-in-the-pulpit, rue anemone, wild ginger, shooting star, and purple & yellow violets. There are opportunities to scramble up rock ledges and stone steps, and footbridges crossing two streams. Please wear comfortable shoes, weather appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, lunch, etc. Please register with Terry Warren at 731-535-0625 or firstname.lastname@example.org
