Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Tuesday, March 25 — Shake Rag Hollow loop, Sewanee TN, 5 miles, lollipop, moderate, 709’ elevation gain. Famous for wildflowers and other cool stuff! We will start our hike at the parking lot just past the University gates, heading west on Beckwith’s Point Trail to Green’s Overview, which has truly spectacular views. Then we descend a bit to return on the Perimeter Trail through Shakerag Hollow. Before we get to our cars, we will take an out-and-back spur trail to Piney Point, where we will find another great overlook.
Check the weather forecast within a day of the hike, as earlier forecasts can change dramatically. Choose appropriate layers; wear hiking shoes or boots; bring snacks and lunch along with more water than you think you need; and gather up hiking poles, rain jacket, sunscreen, and insect repellent as needed.
For carpooling/caravanning, meet at 8:30 am ET at the parking lot just after LaQuinta Inn, right (north) off I-24 Exit 175. https://bit.ly/3QITAD4 Register with the hike leader (required for all Scenic City hikes): Register with the hike leader (required for all Scenic City hikes): Dave Graham, (423) 315-7886.
