Smoky Mountains National Park, Cosby, TN – Kephart Prong & Kanati Fork Trails.

Long Hike: This is a strenuous 8 total mile hike. Two moderate mile in/out hike on the Kephart Prong Trail is a 300′ climb in 1 mi along the Oconaluftee River to the remains of a CCC Camp. Drive short distance to Kanati Fork Trail with a 3000′ climb over 2.9 miles then return the same way back. Short Hike: 4+ mile total moderate/strenuous in/out on both trails. Short hike will only go 1 mile in on the Kanati Fort Trail with a 600′ climb. Kanati Fork is a great spring wildflower hike with many varieties. Depart 7 am CT from the Crossville Dorton United Methodist Church on HY 70E (one mile East of Peavine Rd and next door to Certified Cylander). Carpool cost is $10. Pack water, snacks and lunch. We’ll stop for dinner on the way home.
