Tuesday, May 13-Friday, May 16, 2025 – Camping at Standing Indian Campground, Franklin, NC. Hiking the Appalachian Trail and other nearby trails. This gorgeous campground is inside Nantahala National Forest. The Nantahala River flows through the campground. The campground provides access to numerous trails, including the Appalachian Trail. Hike to stunning views from the Standing Indian Mountain summit on the Appalachian Trail, climbing from Deep Gap near Franklin, NC. 5 miles round trip. Or, we can hike the Lower Ridge Trail from our campsite to the summit of Standing Indian Mountain, 8.6 miles roundtrip. Or, we can hike a 11.3 mile loop from our campsite on the Lower Trail Ridge Trail to the Standing Indian Mountain summit, then AT to Deep Gap, then from Deep Gap pick up the Kimsey Creek Trail to the Standing Indian Campground. Elevation Gain 2,480 ft. Chatuge Lake is nearby. Wayah Bald Lookout. Standing Indian via Kimsey Creek, AT and Lower Ridge Trail. 11.2 miles. We will also visit nearby waterfalls Big Laurel Falls and Mooney Falls. Albert Mountain Fire Tower Hike.
