July 14 – North Plateau Trail to Mountain Oak Trail to North Rim Trail, Savage Gulf. 10 miles, easy to moderate for distance. Relatively flat with a few small rises and creek crossings. 4 miles round trip. South Cumberland State Park, near Sewanee, TN. Hwy 56 South. Moderately difficult due to steep descent and rough footing. Buggy Top Cave is one of the largest cave entrances in Tennessee. Bring water shoes and flashlight and head lamp to explore the cave. You will need water, lunch and hiking sticks. WE HAVE A FEW TAKERS. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO THURSDAY AUGUST 6
Gauging interest here for a Hiwassee/Ocoee trip Aug 21-23. I have group campsite G7 reserved at Gee Creek Campground a.k.a. Hiwassee/Ocoee SP. That site holds a maximum of 25 people. Tentative plan is Friday night: arrive, setup, Potluck dinner at 6:30 CDT/7:30 EDT. Saturday: Float the Hiwassee Reliance Bridge back to boat ramp at campground. Generation schedule will determine time. Dinner out. Sunday: Optional Ocoee whitewater trip through an outfitter. Those who wish to do a hike or paddle Ocoee lake can do that.
Estimated cost: $3 per person per night to camp, your food including your Friday night Potluck contribution. Optional whitewater fee is $40-$49 per person. Please advise how many nights you will camp and if you are doing the whitewater trip on Sunday.
