Cane Creek Canyon

Cane Creek Canyon Preserve, Tuscumbia, AL – 8 mile loop, moderate

December 2, 2023 @ 9:45 am – 4:00 pm

If you are interested in paleontology and geology of the southeartern US, this is a hike for you. In addition to exploring the Canyon near beginning of the hike, we will take in the spectacular overlooks, several water fall sites, and the under bluff trail section.

The preserve is home of Jim and Faye Lacefield, who started the preseve with a purchase of 40 acres in 1979, (now 713 acres) and generouslyopen it to the public for free beginning in 1986. The Lacefields, both retired educators, presonall maintained the property daily. Finally, in February 2023, the couple donated the Preserve to the Land Trust on North Alabama. A book that Jim authored – Lost Worlds in Alabama Rocks: A Guide to the State’s Ancient Life and Landscapes – is in its 2nd edition and scores 4.9 of 5 on a very recent Amazon reviews.

Bring lunch and water. Wear sturdy shoes, bring poles if you have them.
