This will be two hikes. The first hike is a 2.8-mile moderate loop on the enclosure, moat and backbone trails. After a 20-minute drive to Short Springs Natural Area the second hike is a 3.1 mile moderate loop to Machine, Adams, Busby, Falls and Laurel Bluff. Old Stone Fort was a Native American ceremonial gathering place built in the Middle Woodland Period, 1,500-2,000 years ago. Both hikes feature waterfalls and wildflowers. The total mileage for this combined hike is 5.9 miles. Depart 7:30 AM CDST from the far end of Harbor Freight, Highland Square, Crossville. Don’t forget tick/bug spray and sunscreen. Bring water (electrolytes), lunch, snacks and good sturdy hiking boots and hiking sticks are recommended. Carpool fee is $10. Contact the hike leader Cheryl Heckler at 931-200-7436 to participate.
