Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Tuesday, April 23 —St. Elmo and the bottom tip of Lookout Mountain, 4-5 miles, easy/moderate. We start from our meeting place at the foot of Lookout Mountain directly into historic St. Elmo, established in 1885 as Chattanooga’s first suburb. Our short urban walk leads us in a few blocks to Far Enough Trail, the first link in the long chain of trails making up the newly designated River to Clouds Trail. The latter extends 34 miles all the way to Cloudland Canyon. Tempting as that option may be, we’ll confine ourselves to trails closer to St. Elmo. This includes wandering among boulders corralled—with patios!—on the side of Lookout Mountain, walking a short stint along Guild Trail to the Incline Railway underpass, then down a connector trail to Old Mountain Road and back into St. Elmo. We’ll then walk along the southern end of the Chattanooga Riverwalk (with no river in sight), where we might want to stop for ice cream at Clumpies (optional). Meet at 8:30 am ET at Food City in St. Elmo, in the area of the parking lot straight ahead off TN Ave. https://bit.ly/3C3Um9L Please register with hike leader Ginny Kidd, (423) 304-3799.
