Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Thursday, July 25 – Bear Creek Backcountry Trail, Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, GA. 7.5 miles, 1300 foot elevation gain, rated challenging due to some steep inclines and a creek crossing. The trail starts flat with meadow and lake views but eventually switchbacks steeply down through the forest to a beautiful Bear Creek crossing. Unless there is heavy rain it should be easy to rock hop with summer water levels. The trail then follows Bear Creek for the first half of a big loop through the forest, which is mostly flat except for a series of steep inclines about halfway around the loop. Bring lunch and plenty of water, sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will meet at the Visitor Center at 10 am EDT where there are restrooms, and we’ll caravan to the trailhead. Cloudland Canyon State Park charges a $5 parking fee. To register or for more information contact Jim Barritt, jsbarritt@gmail.com or 931-492-3212.
