Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Wednesday, May 29 – Narrows of the Harpeth. 2 miles. Moderate with a rocky rooty trail and a hill. This hike follows alongside the river, passing through an area known as “The Narrows”. Here, the Harpeth River in a 5-mile bend nearly curves back on itself. Highlights include a panoramic view of the area and a man-made tunnel that goes about 100 yards through the bluff at the narrowest point. Back in 1890 Montgomery Bell, using slave labor, bored the tunnel to provide waterpower for his iron ore mill. Meet for carpooling at Glenbrook Kroger, 1010 Glenbrook Way, Hendersonville at 9:00 a.m. CT or at the Harris-Street Bridge trailhead at 10:00 a.m. CT. Lunch to follow. In case of cancellation if you are meeting at the trailhead, call or text Judy Jenkins at 615-403-0002.
