Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Mobrto \\
Mobray Pike to Posey Point, on the Cumberland Trail (CT) near Chattanooga, about 7 miles, moderate due to elevation gain toward the end of the hike. On this section of the CT, which runs close to the edge of the Cumberland Plateau, we’ll have good views of the Tennessee Valley, including the twin towers of TVA’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and various human habitations. Along the trail, we will encounter “very large boulders,” coal seams, blueberry bushes sans blueberries, a rock house that was utilized by Native Americans, lots of evidence of coal mining, not one but two natural stone benches, and other goodies.
Check the weather forecast within a day of the hike, as earlier forecasts can change dramatically. Choose appropriate layers; wear hiking shoes or boots; bring snacks and/or lunch along with more water than you think you need; use insect repellent, hiking poles, sunscreen, and rain jacket as needed.
