Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
This is a 3-mile loop trail, and we’ll save the big wildflower section for last.
Park at the trailhead on Dabney Road next to Norris Dam. The trail splits about 100 yards in, and we’ll go on the uphill path. Descending the loop, we’ll have a fairly level hike next to Clinch River. That’s where the wildflowers are most prolific.
The hike difficulty is rated as easy to moderate. We recommend shoes to wear to and from the hike plus sturdy hiking shoes, other appropriate clothing, a snack, something to drink and a camera. We will carpool from Ingles Supermarket parking lot, 215 Cedar Lane in North Knoxville, at 9:00 am. (Look for Rosie’s Chartreuse color Honda Element). Another option is to meet at the parking area that has restrooms just before turning left to go across Norris Dam. Carpoolers should be there at 9:45 am and tailgate to the trailhead about two miles away. If you want to meet us at the trailhead, take I-75N to exit 122; turn right on TN-61; about 1.4 miles turn left on to US 441 and proceed across the dam; turn left onto Dabney Road, the first road on the left after the second hair-pin turn, staying left, going downhill, to the parking area. We can start our hike at 10:00 am.
After the hike plan on stopping on the way back for a meal and refreshments. For specific information about the hike please call Bob Fowler at 865.315.2266 or rbfowler65@gmail.com .
