Saturday, May 17 – High Voltage Trail, Raccoon Mountain. Moderately strenuous, 8-9 miles, out and back. First a gentle walk through pleasant woods, followed by a moderately steep ascent to the top of the mountain, which includes TVA’s pumped storage lake.
Check the weather forecast within a day of the hike, as earlier forecasts can change dramatically. Choose appropriate layers; wear hiking shoes or boots; bring snacks and/or lunch along with more water than you think you need; use insect repellent, hiking poles, sunscreen, and rain jacket as needed.
Meet at the parking lot just past LaQuinta Inn, north off I-24 Exit 175, at 8:30 am. Turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp if coming west from Chattanooga. Register with hike leader Tom McElhone, 805-208-4654 or sarmitta@yahoo.com. Carpool: $2.00.
