Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Tuesday, December 12 — Sherwood Forest, 2.7 miles, loop, easy. We will see impressive rock formations and a nice view of the steep railroad track where the trains needed pusher engines to chug up the mountain. Naturalists should look for the rare Painted Snake Coiled Forest Snail (!!) which has only been found in Franklin County, TN. Our relatively short hike should leave time to stroll through the Monteagle Assembly area, which was founded in 1882 as part of the Chautauqua educational movement. The Assembly just happens to be near the Mountain Goat deli. How convenient! For carpooling/caravanning, meet at 8:30 am ET at the parking lot just after LaQuinta Inn, right (north) off I-24 Exit 175. https://bit.ly/3QITAD4 Please register with hike leader Ginny Kidd, (423) 304-3799. Carpool cost $5.
