Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
Tuesday, April 15 — VOLUNTEER WORK DAY AT REFLECTION RIDING ARBORETUM, at the base of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm ET. We will be doing light work to reroute the Profile Trail along Lookout Creek. Created long ago, this trail has fallen into disrepair. We are bringing it back by rerouting an area that has eroded and washed away beside the creek. This involves raking, pruning, and removing fallen trees along this new section. There won’t be much digging as we have discovered an animal path that fits the need. This is Phase 1 of our project. On future workdays, our chapter will continue to work on other sections until the entire 2.7-mile Profile Trail is user friendly to all who visit Reflection Riding Arboretum.
Check the weather forecast within a day of the hike, as earlier forecasts can change dramatically. Wear long pants and boots. Bring gloves, loppers, rakes, snacks and more water than you think you need. Some tools will be provided. Wear sunscreen, insect repellant and a rain jacket as needed.
We will meet at the parking lot across from the Kiddie Trail. This is shortly before the entrance to Reflection Riding Nature Center at 400 Garden Road, Chattanooga TN 37419. Please do NOT park in the main parking lot past the gate or in the small parking lot just before the gate, which are needed for other visitors. We will carpool to the worksite. Register with our volunteer leader Randy Medley, 423-667-0975.
