Promoting the development and enjoyment of Tennessee trails.
BSFNRA Sheltowee Trace/Gobblers Arch Jamestown, TN. 6 mile moderate to strenuous hike due to the climb up the Gobbler Arch Trail. The hike starts at the Peter’s Mountain trailhead on Divide Rd in the Big South Form Recreation Area and descends down the Sheltowee Trace Trail following the Mark Branch Creek past rock houses and rock bluffs. The trail crosses the creek several times although there are plenty of stepping rocks to make most of the crossings, but be prepared to follow the trail across and down the stream to the Mark Branch Falls where the trail drops down a set of stairs to the bottom where we meet up with the KY Wild River. Bring water shoes to cross the river to the picnic grounds for lunch. Go back across the river to Gobblers Arch Trail and start a short but steep ascent up to and around steep rock bluffs and rockhouses until we reach the KY Wild River overlook. From there, we follow the trail to and through Gobbler’s Arch to the trailhead. Requires a short car shuttle. Depart from Cracker Barrel at 7:30 am CST. Carpool is $8.00. Bring hiking poles, wear hiking/rain gear, bring plenty of (electrolytes) water, lunch/snack. Don’t forget tick/bug spray and sunscreen. People aged 18 and over, as well as members and non-members are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. For additional information, contact the hike leader Deb. text/call 931-267-2243
