Joint hike with Upper-Cumberland. Change of trails since storm damage still not cleared up so we’ll be doing the Twin Arches loop from the Charit Lodge acess trail. Kayaking on Byrd Lake at Cumberland Mountain State Park. Meet 8am at the boat house parking area. Kayak rental is $ 8.00 per hour, first come first served. Rental starts 8am last check out time at 5:30pm. We’ll hike the 4 mile easy Pioneer Loop before or after kayaking. Bring (electrolytes) water, snacks and lunch. Don’t forget tick/bug spray and sunscreen. Persons 18 and over, members and non-members welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Friday, June 21 – Pogue Creek Canyon to Pickett State Park, Jamestown. 7 miles rated moderately strenuous for terrain, elevation change and length. Joint hike with the Highland Rim and Nashville chapters. This hike highlights varied geologic features that include rock houses, arches, mesas, and one of the most picturesque small lakes in the state. Our route includes the Mesa Top, Upper Canyon, Moccasin Rock, Ridge, and Lake trails. We will meet at Arch Lake in Pickett State Park to shuttle to the Pogue Creek Canyon trailhead. Bring snacks, plenty of water, and lunch. Wear footwear appropriate for rugged trail and hiking poles are recommended. Thursday-Saturday, June 20-22 – Camping at Bandy Creek Campground. Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Jamestown. Joint event with the Highland Rim chapter. We are camping in A Loop, a tent only area. Thursday afternoon after setting up tents, we will hike in the Leatherwood Ford area. Friday, we are hiking at Pogue Creek Canyon near Pickett State Park. Sunday, June 16 – Bridal Veil Falls, Sewanee, TN. Take Dad on a Hike. 5 miles, moderate. Some sections are steep and rocky. Meet at the Memorial Cross on the Sewanee Domain at 1 pm CDT. Bring water and a snack. Wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes. Trekking poles are recommended. We will begin our hike on the Sewanee Perimeter Trail beginning from the Memorial Cross. The newer section of the Perimeter Trail bypasses Procter Hall through a dense forest and below limestone bluffs. After we visit Bridal Veil Falls, we will take a secondary trail which intersects the Perimeter Trail northwest of Otey View.
