Obed Segment of Cumberland Trail called the Nemo Trail is rated moderate to strenuous. From the Nemo Bridge Trailhead the hiker is exposed to rising bluffs and glimpses of the Emory and Obed Rivers. Wear orange. Hike: 5 miles in/out where the trail continues on across old Alley Ford Road. Depart 7:30 am CDST from the Crossville Outlet Mall on Interstate Drive SW parking lot. Carpool gas cost is $5. Don’t forget tick/bug spray and sunscreen. Pack (electrolytes) water, snacks and lunch.
Joint hike with Upper Cumberland Chapter.Long Hike: 6 mile total moderate to strenuous Base of the falls, Woodland & Overlook trails plus the Gilbert Gaul Loop. Short Hike: 2 mile moderate to strenuous to base of the falls, Woodland & Overlook trails. We will eat lunch at the new lodge restaurant then do the Gilbert Gaul trail. Depart 7:30am CDST from the southeast parking lot of Central Baptist Church, 1346 S Main St, Crossville, TN. Carpool cost is $5. Bring snacks, water, bug spray and sunscreen. The park is located adjacent to the Lakeland Senior Center on the west side of Canada Rd. between I-40 and Hwy 70 at 4523 Canada Rd. The hike is about 4 miles. Allow 2.5 hours for the hike. We will hike through mostly bottomland forest but there are some moderately strenuous places elevation changes in the beginning and at the end. There is one shallow water crossing. Be prepared for mud if we have had a recent rain. Waterproof footwear and hiking poles are recommended. Bring water and snacks. Heavy rain or the threat of severe weather will cancel. Please register at which time you will receive start time. Following the hike the Memphis Chapter will host a free one hour First Aid Program at the community center at 12:00 noon. Mary Spangler, a certified family nurse practitioner will review what to do on the trail in case of sprains, cuts, bee stings, demonstrate a hands only CPR and answer questions that you may have. All hikers are welcome and it is not necessary to hike before the program. Join us and take home valuable information.

Red River Adventure Outfitters offers a 8 mile Red River paddle past towering cliffs, awesome rock formations and deep forests. Kayak rental fee is $50. Bring water shoes. The hike will be approximately 5.75 miles and take between 2 1/2 and 3 hours. The terrain is relatively flat with a few steep ravine crossings. Bring water and a snack. Hiking boots are recommended especially if we have had recent rain. Rain will cancel hike. We will meet in the unpaved parking area on the south side of Walnut Grove immediately east of the Wolf River. Registration is required with name and contact info. Please arrive no later than 8:45 to sign in and hear any announcements. We will leave the parking lot promptly at 9:00.
