Monday, February 24, 7:00 pm at the DW Wilson Community Center, 501 N. Collins Street, Tullahoma.
Our featured speaker is Ned Murray, Executive Director of Friends of South Cumberland State Parks. Ned’s presentation is entitled “What’s in a Name? How (And Why) One Park Became Three” which will tell the story of South Cumberland State Park being split into three parks–South Cumberland, Savage Gulf, and Head of the Crow. His update will shed light on the process of splitting of one park into three and the major implications for hikers and other visitors, as well as for the entire South Cumberland community. If we ask him, he may also tell a few stories and answer questions about walking the 500+ mile Camino de Santiago with his wife, Lucy.

Sunday, December 15 – Murfreesboro and Highland Rim Christmas Party & Potluck. 2:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Ada Wright Center in Fred Deadman Park, 328 N. Woodland Street, Manchester. The Ada Wright Center is located next to the Little Duck River Greenway, a paved walking trail that offers an opportunity to take a stroll. Also, Joan Hartvigsen will lead a 2.5-mile hike in nearby Old Stone Fort State Park from the picnic pavilion starting at 1:00 pm. We will open the Ada Wright Center at 2:00 pm to start decorating and enjoy some games and holiday cheer. We plan to eat dinner at 5:00 pm. Each person should bring one potluck meal item (appetizer, salad, main dish) and one dessert item. Hot cider, hot chocolate, sodas, tea and coffee will be provided. For cookies, we’ll have boxes for a cookie exchange. We will provide plastic tablecloths for the rectangular tables; however, bring table decorations – we will vote on the most festive table. If anyone has a musical instrument, bring it to accompany a round of Christmas songs. Otherwise, we’ll tell trail stories…this group has some great ones! There is lots of space so bring your spouse or friends. For more information contact Chapter Co-Chair Jeanne Conatser at djconatser@comcast.net.
