We’ll combine the Henry Hollow Loop trail with the eastern loop of the Laurel Woods trail. These paths will take us across creeks and over a number of ridges. Bring a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. Don’t forget sun and insect protection. We’ll meet at the Creekside Trailhead parking lot for an 8:30 AM step-off. Plan for roughly 5-6 hours trail time. The park is located adjacent to the Lakeland Senior Center on the west side of Canada Rd. between I-40 and Hwy 70 at 4523 Canada Rd. The hike is about 4 miles. Allow 2.5 hours for the hike. We will hike through mostly bottomland forest but there are some moderately strenuous places elevation changes in the beginning and at the end. There is one shallow water crossing. Be prepared for mud if we have had a recent rain. Waterproof footwear and hiking poles are recommended. Bring water and snacks. Heavy rain or the threat of severe weather will cancel. Please register at which time you will receive start time. Following the hike the Memphis Chapter will host a free one hour First Aid Program at the community center at 12:00 noon. Mary Spangler, a certified family nurse practitioner will review what to do on the trail in case of sprains, cuts, bee stings, demonstrate a hands only CPR and answer questions that you may have. All hikers are welcome and it is not necessary to hike before the program. Join us and take home valuable information.
The hike will be approximately 5.75 miles and take between 2 1/2 and 3 hours. The terrain is relatively flat with a few steep ravine crossings. Bring water and a snack. Hiking boots are recommended especially if we have had recent rain. Rain will cancel hike. We will meet in the unpaved parking area on the south side of Walnut Grove immediately east of the Wolf River. Please register and include your name and phone # and register by Friday noon 2/14.
This is a 6-mile hike around the lake and through the woods. The trail is easy if you’re accustomed to going six miles but if not, you’d probably call it moderate. Meet at the lake parking lot and bring snacks and water. Registration is required and please include your name and phone number. Rain will cancel or postpone the hike.
We will hike the White trail for a total of 6-6.5 miles. Two creek crossings (one at the beginning and one at the end) are part of this trail. Most likely the creek will have water so wear waterproof hiking boots. Bring water and a snack and allow 3 hours for this hike. Rain will cancel hike. Registration is required.
This is 6 mile loop trail in Shelby Farms Park. We will pass several lakes and hike in a lovely forest. Trail is rated moderate. Meet at the parking lot across from the playground. Arrive early enough to use the bathrooms and be ready to hike at 9:30. Hiking boots are recommended and bring water and a snack. If it has rained there could be some mud. Registration is required by Friday noon.
